Razz is a poker variation that follows the rules of Seven-Card Stud High.  However, Razz is a lowball game.  That means that the lowest poker hand wins the pot.  A straight and flush have no value in this game and Aces are always low.  The best hand in Razz is called “the wheel” which is a 5-4-3-2-A.

On the first round, the player that has the highest card makes the forced bet and the low card starts on the following rounds.  If you play Razz in a fixed limit game, the lower limit is used on the third and fourth streets.  The upper limit is used for the fifth street.

Razz feels a bit unusual if you are not used to lowball games.  This is a fact you can use to take advantage of other players if you do a little practice in the free poker practice rooms.  Razz is used in multi-game tournaments.  In a HORSE tournament, Razz is the “R”.  It will do you good to learn and practice a bit of Razz poker.
